If you get queazy at the sound of food names’ and it’s origins, well Lilly’s Tacos serves up steamed meats mostly Maciza, Cabeza, Cachete, Lengua, Labio and Ojo — now for the faint of heart, keep in mind that it’s just Beef (Steamed Beef, Beef Head, Beef Cheek, Beef Tongue, Beef Lip and Beef Eyes ) — You might stay clear of this. To some it might seem a bit off-putting – but until you’ve tried it, it’s a personal choice.
They’ve won some local awards for best mexican tacos category and rightly so, they’ve hit on a winning combination of simplicity and good taste. I prefer the corn tortillas to be grilled, not steamed as they are more wet then handling. The pricing is very good, about $1.69 per taco, plus you get the salsa bar with onions, cilantro, radishes, red and green salsas. Their website is located here. Open every day except Tuesdays at 310 Chapala Street and 290d Storke Road in Goleta.
If you’re planning a party and people like this type of food, I offer up this plan: Order your tacos on Plate, everything separate and your tortilla grilled, otherwise they’ll be steamed. This way you can set everything out for your friends to self-serve their own Tacos. Enjoy!
